GANGTEY TREK

The best time for Gangtey trek is during March-May and September-November and it is a 4days trek. This trek offers you with a beautiful view of Gangtey villages and monasteries en route and takes you through a forest of juniper, bamboo, magnolia and rhododendrons.

This trek is a moderate trek to the home of black-necked cranes in Bhutan who migrate here during winters from Tibetan plateau.

Gangtey is one of the most beautiful places in Bhutan. Especially during March-May as you enter Gangtey valley at lawala (name of a place in Gangtey) you will be mesmerized to see the rhododendron fully covered from both sides of the road just like a red carpet.

Day 1- Gangtey to Gogona

Day 2- Gogona to Khotakha

Day 3- Khotakha to Tikke Zampa

Day 1- Gangtey to Gogona

After breakfast, the first day of the trial begins from Phobjikha valley. This trek takes you through the mixed forest of rhododendron, bamboo, juniper and magnolia. A winding trail upwards through meadows and fields, ascending to Tsele-la pass. After a short climb, we reach Gogona village. The people of Gogona were originally nomads and they speak a language called Bjopkha (the language of nomads).

 

Day 2- Gogona to Khotakha

The second day of the trek takes you through a short gentle climb up leads to Shobju-la pass (11,100 ft). After the pass, the treks trail leads down to the wide valley of Khotakha, where the people of Sha (a region of Wangduephodrang district) come in summer to graze their animals. The breathtaking landscape adds to your tiring day.

 

Day 3- Khotakha to Tikke Zampa

On the last day of the trek takes you to Tashila pass after a short climb. After Tashila pass the trail takes you all the way downhill through dense rhododendrons, magnolias, ferns and dwarf bamboo. This stretch of trail is one of the finest bird watching areas in Bhutan. Different species like laughing thrush, shrike, magpie and woodpecker are found here. The trek trail eventually meets the road near Tikke Zampa (Zampa means bridge).
